Is compounded semaglutide safe?
Compounded semaglutide needs two separate checks: whether semaglutide fits your health, and whether the specific preparation, dose and pharmacy are appropriate. A familiar ingredient alone cannot answer either question.
Is it the same as Wegovy or Ozempic?
No. A compounded preparation is not an FDA-approved generic of either brand. Evidence for an approved product does not establish that a different finished formulation performs the same way. Ask which form of semaglutide is used; FDA distinguishes semaglutide base from the salt forms semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate.
The dosing details matter
Before the first dose, you should be able to identify the concentration, your prescribed dose in milligrams, and the corresponding syringe volume. Do not carry a syringe-unit instruction from an old vial to a new concentration. FDA has reported dosing errors with compounded semaglutide, including errors requiring hospitalization.
What belongs in the medical review?
Approved semaglutide labeling includes important gastrointestinal, gallbladder, pancreatic and dehydration-related kidney risks. A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 is a contraindication. Share pregnancy plans, other medicines and previous reactions before prescribing. Persistent severe abdominal pain or inability to keep fluids down needs prompt medical attention.
What to confirm before ordering
Ask why this preparation is being considered, what alternatives are available, who will dispense it, how it should be stored and whom to contact about side effects. Keep the dispensing label and written dose instructions together. Those are more useful safety checks than a badge or a low advertised price.
