For the finasteride component: in two 1-year randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials in 1553 men aged 18 to 41 with mild to moderate vertex hair loss, oral finasteride 1 mg daily produced a 107-hair difference from placebo within a 5.1 square centimeter circle of scalp at 12 months, and a 138-hair difference at 24 months.1
Finasteride cut the 5-year likelihood of developing further visible hair loss by 93 percent.

In an analysis of blinded global photographic assessment from those same two Phase III trials, finasteride 1 mg daily was associated with a 93 percent decrease relative to placebo in the 5-year likelihood of developing further visible hair loss, 95 percent confidence interval 89 to 97 percent.2

For the oral minoxidil component: in a 24-week double-blind, double-dummy randomized clinical trial in 90 men aged 18 to 55 with androgenetic alopecia, of whom 68 completed, oral minoxidil 5 mg once daily did not demonstrate superiority over topical minoxidil 5 percent twice daily for terminal hair density, and hypertrichosis was reported in 49 percent of the oral group.3
Oral and topical minoxidil did not differ on hair density, but hypertrichosis was more common orally.

In a meta-analysis of four randomized clinical trials covering 279 patients with androgenetic alopecia followed for 24 to 39 weeks, oral and topical minoxidil did not differ in hair density or hair diameter, while hypertrichosis was significantly more common with the oral form, risk ratio 2.01, 95 percent confidence interval 1.18 to 3.41.4
In 1404 patients on low-dose oral minoxidil, hypertrichosis was the most frequent adverse effect.

In a retrospective multicenter study of 1404 patients treated with low-dose oral minoxidil for at least three months for any type of alopecia, hypertrichosis was the most frequent adverse effect at 15.1 percent, systemic effects included lightheadedness at 1.7 percent, fluid retention at 1.3 percent and tachycardia at 0.9 percent, and 1.2 percent stopped the drug because of adverse effects. The study had no control group.5

There is no randomized controlled trial of minoxidil, finasteride, biotin and vitamin E combined in one compounded oral capsule, and no trial comparing that combination with finasteride alone, with oral minoxidil alone, or with placebo. Everything above is evidence for separate single agents at their own doses, and it does not transfer to the combination as sold.12345
No trial supports biotin for hair in people who are not biotin deficient.

Biotin is the component with the least behind it. A systematic review of the literature found 18 reported cases of hair or nail improvement with biotin, and in every one the patient had an underlying deficiency or a specific pathology; a second review found no clinical trial of biotin supplementation for alopecia of any kind and no randomized controlled trial of its effect on hair quantity or quality in humans. There is no evidence of benefit in people who are not biotin deficient.67

Do not use if you have
- Women who are or may become pregnant must not take this capsule or handle the contents of an opened or damaged capsule, since finasteride can affect the development of a male fetus
Serious risks
- Postmarketing reports of breast tenderness and enlargement, testicular pain, depression and suicidal ideation
- Sexual dysfunction that continued after the drug was stopped
- Your provider notes that finasteride lowers PSA and can complicate prostate cancer screening
- Alongside the boxed warning, documented salt and water retention, faster heart rate and hair growth on the face and body
- The FDA has warned that biotin can interfere with laboratory immunoassays, including the troponin tests used to diagnose heart attacks, so any clinician ordering blood work needs to know you take it
